Privacy Policy

Shog.io (the “Service”) is a shogi game platform available at shog.io and as the mobile app Shog.io on the App Store and Google Play. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can remove it.
What we collect
- Profile data you give us. A display name and country flag you choose on the Profile screen. Nothing else — no real name, address, or phone number.
- Game data. The games you play (moves, outcomes, timestamps) and your Glicko-2 rating per variant. This is used for matchmaking, ratings, and post-game review.
- On-device preferences. Piece style, streak counter, learn-path progress, and a locally generated profile ID are stored on your device using browser localStorage / mobile AsyncStorage.
- Authentication (web only). If you sign in on the web, authentication is handled by Clerk. See Clerk's privacy policy. The mobile app does not require an account.
- Technical logs. Our server records standard request logs (IP, timestamp, path) for a short period for abuse prevention and debugging.
What we do NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no third-party trackers.
- No analytics SDKs that tie behavior to a personal identity.
- No access to your contacts, camera, microphone, or location.
How we use it
Only to run the game: to match you with opponents, compute ratings, render your post-game review, and remember your preferences. We do not sell data and do not share it with advertisers.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete your profile and all server-side data tied to it at any time from the Profile screen in the mobile app (Delete account & data) or by emailing us (below). Deletion removes your profile row, ratings history, and game records associated with your profile ID. Logs containing your IP are kept up to 30 days and then purged.
Children
Shog.io is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we materially change this policy we will update the date above and, for a reasonable period, surface the change in-app or on the homepage.
